Obituary of Barry O'Brien

Peacefully at Chelsey Park LTC Home, on Sunday, March 1, 2020, in his 76th year. Beloved husband of Diane Mackie. Cherished father of Justin; stepfather of the late Kim Harris; and “Sorta Grandpa” of Adam Harris. He will be missed by his sister, Christina (Peter) Morris; brother, Tim O’Brien; and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his first wife Reta (1990). Barry grew up on a farm in the outskirts of London. He graduated from Ridgetown Agriculture College and was proud of being a farmer. Barry loved to travel and was an avid hockey and baseball fan; always cheering for the Detroit Red Wings and Cleveland Indians. He was also a competitive goalie, a baseball catcher and a minor hockey coach. Barry was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Donnybrook Branch 513 in Dorchester; past president of the Optimist Club of Arva & District; a Mocha Shriner; and past president of The Irish Benevolent Society of London. He enjoyed planning parties and events for charities supported by these clubs. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation and thanks to the 9th floor staff at University Hospital, 3rd & 4th floor staff at Chelsey Park, and the South West LHIN. Please note that the Celebration of Barry’s Life which was to be held at the MOCHA SHRINE CENTRE, London, on Sunday, March 22,2020 has been cancelled.
