Obituary of William 'Bill' Ernest West

After a long, healthy life of 95 years, Bill passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2020, at the Palliative Care Unit - University Hospital in London, Ontario. Bill was predeceased by his wife Trudy (1995); his parents Harry and Myrtle; and sister Evelyn (Robert). Loving father of Barbara and Don (Diane). Dear grandfather of Mark and Steven (Heather), and great-grandfather of Charlotte, Brooklyn and Paul. Uncle Bill will be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews. Bill was a rear gunner in the 196 Squadron of the RAF during World War II. He flew in Wellington and Stirling bombers. In recognition of his participation during D-Day and in the liberation of France, he was awarded The Legion of Honour medal by the French Republic. He was a member of the 427 (London) Wing AFAC. Bill worked at the post office for many years before retiring. He enjoyed golfing, reading, jigsaw puzzles, and debating politics. The family would like to thank the following for their compassionate care for Bill: ParaMed Home Health Care Services: Linda Mason (supervisor) and Emelyn Ramos (PSW); ConnectCare; the staff and nurses of the palliative care floors at University Hospital; Dr. Alvin Yang and Dr. Harris-Schulz for their excellent communication; and Dr. Ziada and Heather (patient care facilitator), for their valuable input. A funeral service will be conducted at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. Interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Bill are asked to consider The Salvation Army.
