Obituary of Audrey Louise Smith (née Munro)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Audrey Louise (née Munro) Smith, of London, on Thursday, January 9, 2020, at the age of 93. Audrey was born in Brooksdale on October 19, 1926. She graduated from business college in Woodstock, and worked for several years as a stenographer before meeting and marrying her life partner, Gordon, and returning to her roots on a farm in Kintore, Ontario. She was a wise woman with tremendous inner strength who imparted many life lessons to her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Audrey spent her entire working career at CNR. After retirement, she loved to golf, have cocktail hour while watching The Young and the Restless, and day trips with the Richmond Woods gang. When she was able to, she loved to travel. She was fiercely independent with a zest for life. There was nothing she wouldn’t try and she told her children and grandchildren to “Just do it”. She never wanted to miss a Saturday night dancing at Lakeside. Audrey was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her children: Ellen (Paul) Lauersen, of Canmore, Alberta, Jamie Smith, of Brantford, and Virginia (Greg) Best, of Dundas; grandchildren: Alicia (Dean), Brittany (Simon), Amy (Bob), Sara-Jane (Andrew), Curtis, Melanie (Spencer), and Duncan; as well as nine great-grandchildren. She will be missed by her dear friend Bob Burt. She is also survived by her siblings Muriel Ballantyne, of Tavistock and Foster Munro, of Brantford; and numerous nieces and nephews. Audrey is predeceased by her husband Gordon; sister Lorene Pearson; and brothers Lawrence Munro and Wally Munro. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, where a Celebration of Audrey’s Life will be conducted on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. A private family interment will take place in the spring at South Kintore Cemetery.
