Obituary of Matthew Clarence Patrick Whelan

Sadly, peacefully following in the footprints of his parents, passed on Saturday, January 4, 2020, at the age of 32 years. Missed by his brother Christopher James Hartland; Matt’s wife Elysia Maylea (née Roy); his aunt Lorraine Ryan (Glenn McArdle), Joseph and Natasha; uncle Kevin Ryan (Kay Smithman), Andrew and Nicholas; aunt Bernice Ryan and by his cats. He will also be missed by the Conrad, McTaggart and Roy families. Many dear friends and military family will also be mourning his loss. There will always be a spot in our hearts filled with our memories of you. As a 4th generation Canadian Armed Forces member, a veteran of Afghanistan, and recipient of the General Campaign Star – South-West Asia medal, and stationed at 5 Canadian, Div. Support Centre, Master Corporal Matthew Whelan, you are forever proudly in the service of “The Royal Canadian Regiment”. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 17, 2020 from 6:30 ~ 8:30 p.m. at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, where a memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at 1:00 p.m., with visitation starting at 11:00 a.m. There will be a reception immediately following the service at Beaver Hall, Building 63, located at Wolseley Barracks, 701 Oxford Street East, London. Private interment in Montreal, Quebec will take place at a later date. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Matt are asked to consider the Humane Society London & Middlesex.
