Obituary of James 'Jim' Wakefield

Peacefully at Parkwood Institute on Sunday, March 10, 2019, in his 91st year. Beloved husband of his late wife Florence (1986) and longtime companion of the late Eileen Griffon. Loving father of Diane Berwick (Lloyd). Also loved by his grandchildren Elizabeth Archer and Wendy Black (Richard), and by his great-grandchildren Alexandra, Sarah, Travis (Hayley) and Dylan. Jim was born in Chatham on March 21, 1928. At the age of 14, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy, but was sent home when it was discovered he was underage. He later joined the Royal Canadian Army and was stationed in Ottawa and Nova Scotia. As a civilian, Jim worked at the London Free Press for 41 years as a Linotype Operator. Jim and Eileen traveled extensively all through Canada, the United States and Europe, including touring the Russian border. Jim enjoyed doing everything, but especially loved to swim and dance. Jim’s life will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at 12:30 p.m. at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
