Obituary of Mary "Eileen" Bowdrey

Age 94, of London and Toronto, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 4, 2019, at Seven Oaks LTC home, in Scarborough, Ontario, with her loving daughter, Lynn, by her side. Eileen was born in Toronto on February 23, 1925; daughter of the late Hugh and Mary Wilson. Eileen grew up in Toronto, and as a young woman joined the RCAF, where she served for three years during World War II. In 1947, she married Alan George Bowdrey of Bethany, Manitoba, and moved with him from Toronto, Ontario, to Regina, Saskatchewan, and then to London, Ontario during his career at CGE. Eileen was an avid reader, and also loved playing bridge, scrabble, and especially doing crossword puzzles. Her dictionary was always by her side. Eileen was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She also loved all five family dogs. She is survived by her sister, Norma Lacey; son Doug (Frances); her daughter Lynn (Oliver Manton) and grandchildren: Jennifer (Lee Schofield), Andrea, Stephanie Bowdrey (Jim Boyle), Kimberleigh (Casey) and Dustin (Julia) Chamberlain. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Alan (October 1, 2012); sister Doris Cartledge; brother Jack Wilson; sister-in-law Joan Snyder; brothers-in-law Charles Cartledge, Ward Snyder and Dave Lacey. Eileen will be sadly missed and never forgotten by her family. Many thanks to the staff and residents of Queens Village, London, Ontario, and Seven Oaks LTC Home, Scarborough, Ontario, who have been her extended family for the past eight years. Cremation has taken place. A service to celebrate Eileen’s life will be conducted at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 2:00 p.m., with visitation one hour prior. Interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, London. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Eileen are asked to consider a charity of your choice.
