Obituary of Maxine Jean Baldwin (née Small)

Peacefully, on Monday, February 25, 2019, Maxine Jean Baldwin of Markham, at the age of 88. Predeceased by her husbands Keith Leroy Stirling (1973) and Clayton James Baldwin (2014). Beloved mother of Janna Stirling (Glenn Gordulic), Douglas (Martha) Stirling and Robert Stirling. Cherished grandmother of 20 grandchildren and great-grandchildren in the Stirling and Baldwin families. Dearly loved by Ruby (Cliff) Connell, Linda Buchanan, Harry (Maggie) Baldwin and Brenda Stevens. Missed by sister-in-law Beverly Small, and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Predeceased by parents Malcolm and Jean (Campbell) Small, and brothers: Donald (Helen), Melvin and Douglas Small. Maxine was born on a farm near Iona, Ontario. She attended the Normal School (Teachers’ College) in London, where she met Keith. Her career began in a one room school house in Southwold, Elgin County; teaching eventually led her to a long career within the London School Board. She travelled the world on planes, trains, ships and in a motorhome. Maxine was an active member of several communities, including the Metropolitan United Church, London and Delta Kappa Gamma Society for Key Women Educators. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, where a funeral service will be conducted on Friday, March 1, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Maxine are asked to consider the Bethany Lodge Foundation or the Metropolitan United Church, London.
