Obituary of Dr. Peter Templar West

Passed to the arms of our Lord on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. Peter leaves behind his loving wife of 63 years Verona (nee Chappell), his children Bruce West (Karen), Anne Stannard (the late Steve), Susan Beringer (Ron) and is predeceased by his son Paul (1985). Peter was born in St. Helier, Jersey Island, U.K. and lived through the war years in Yorkshire, England. The family immigrated to Canada in 1947. Peter worked as an announcer on radio in Owen Sound and as a broadcaster and producer in television in Sault Ste. Marie for 14 years. Dr. West received his Ph.D. from Western University and ran a Children’s Mental Health Centre in Chatham for 7 years, before returning to London where he was in private practice until he retired. He was Master of Acacia Lodge #580 in 1992 and President of Mocha Oriental Band in 2017. He was a member of Mocha’s Ritualistic Cast, and associate member of the Lambeth Legion. Dr. West’s body has been willed to the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 24, 2018 from 7:00–9:00 p.m. at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London where the Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 25, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. Pastor Kirk Harper from Forest City Community Church officiating. A Masonic Service under the auspices of St. Paul’s Lodge #107 will be conducted in the funeral home on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Peter are asked to consider the London Regional Cancer Program.
