John P. Rankin Flt. Lt. RCAF 1918 – 2018 Passed peacefully at University Hospital on Saturday, March 3rd, 2018, in his 100th year. Proud to serve his country during WWII with 413 Squadron. John was the navigator on the longest photo reconnaissance of WWII - 28 hours airborne over 3,000 miles to photograph the Cocos Atoll in the Indian Ocean. Loving husband of Marion for 73 years. Proud Dad of daughters, Jayne Borschke (late Boomer) and Penny Cumberland (Ken). Adored Papa of Margie Borschke (James Bucknell), Lyndsay Borschke (Chris Pigott), B.J. Borschke (Jessica), Baird Cumberland, Will Cumberland and Lara Butler (Mason). Cherished Great-Grandad of Evan, Poppy, Hudson, Knox, Isla, Blake and Isley. John enjoyed a successful 30 year career in the egg production and distribution business in both Petrolia and Strathroy. He was an ardent golfer for 50 years, being a proud member at Highland, Green Hills and Hickory Ridge. A Celebration of Life will be conducted at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London on Friday, March 9, 2018 at 3:00 p.m., with visitation one hour prior. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of John are asked to consider the 427 (London) Wing or the Air Cadet League of Canada.
