Obituary of Margaret Anne Hill

After living a full life with elegance and grace along with illness, on June 26th 2017, in her 67th year. Born in Parry Sound Ontario. Beloved wife of Dr. Julian Oates for 36 years. A much loved mother of David Luke Oates, daughter of Margaret Gertrude Hill, and sister of Sherry Hill, both of Ottawa. Pre-deceased by her father John (Jack) Hunter Hill. Anne attended UWO and graduated with an MA in psychology in 1976. Anne worked in the Developmental Service Worker program of the Human Services Division of Fanshawe College. She was passionate about teaching and was loved by her students. Several became life-long friends. She was an educational innovator and advocated for research-based curriculum change. She was deeply involved in research on the use of assistive devices for students with developmental disabilities. She met Julian at UWO and they married in 1981. David Luke arrived in 1988. Anne loved reading, gardening, travel, cooking, hiking, biking, skiing, playing the piano, and meditation. Above all, Anne had a beautiful heart and a natural generosity that was impossible to miss. Sincere thanks to the many doctors, nurses, and staff at the LRCC and LHSC who have been involved with her care over the past months and years. Visitation will be held on Monday from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London. A celebration of Anne’s life will be conducted at First - St. Andrew’s United Church, 350 Queens Avenue, London on Tuesday, July 4th, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.
