Russell Candler

Obituary of Russell Charles Candler

Born November 20, 1942 in Manchester, England to Russell Sr. (2000) and Eleanor Candler, née Corbett (2002), Russ passed away peacefully on Friday, June 16, 2017, at the age of 74. He is survived by his partner Linda Allen, his step children Christopher (Stephanie) and Jessica (Simon), his step grandson Ben, his brother Allan (Margery), his niece Karen (Steve), his nephew Michael, and his grand nieces and nephews Victoria, Ryan, Chantal, and Christina. Russ taught for 35 years for the Elgin County District Catholic School Board. During his retirement he founded the Forest City Singles group, where 20 years ago he met his "sweetie," Linda. Despite being dealt a devastating health hand (Addison's Disease, Cancer, and the rare genetic disease Adrenomyeloneuropathy) and losing the use of his legs, Russ never complained about his pain and discomfort. He did, however, complain (often loudly) when his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs and Blue Jays lost. His good humour and warm smile will be missed by all he was dear to, including many of the personal care workers from Cheshire who have been so kind to both Russ and Linda. Please join us in celebrating Russ' life on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. for a Funeral Mass at HOLY FAMILY PARISH, 777 Valetta Street in London, Ontario. Committal service and inurnment will take place later in the day at St. Peter’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to VON Canada, who have greatly increased the quality of life for so many, including Russ.
