Gordon 'Graeme' Cameron

Obituary of Gordon 'Graeme' Cameron

1919 - 2017 Passed away peacefully, with family by his side, on Saturday, March 4th, 2017. Graeme is predeceased by the love of his life, his wife for 69 years, Ida Jean Cameron (Jarmain). Graeme is also predeceased by his son Ross Graeme Cameron, his sister Elizabeth Penrose Eady and his parents. He is survived by his sister Dorothy Margaret Collyer. Graeme is greatly missed by his children: Kathy (Bill), Jim (Karen) and Bob (Harriet), and his nine grandchildren: Brian, Darryl, David (Anna), Ryan, Brad, Julianne, Laura, John and Scott, and by his great-grandchildren Cameron and Elisabeth. Also missed by many nieces and nephews. Born in Gleichen, Alberta, Graeme moved east with his family to Hamilton and then London. He attended South Collegiate and the University of Western Ontario, where he studied Math and Physics. He was trained as a meteorologist so he could forecast the weather for the convoys leaving Halifax in WW II. After the war, he returned to London and began his long career with the London Life Insurance Company as an actuary. He was involved, in the early days, setting up the UNIVAC computer system and later enjoyed his time as head of group pensions. Graeme and Jean and their four children enjoyed a busy life in London. They were active in First-St. Andrew’s United Church, Castle Club of London, London Hunt Club, bridge clubs, and book and study clubs. The family will miss Graeme’s sense of humour which we all enjoyed as we shared wonderful times on the tennis court, at the bridge table, working in the darkroom, at the workbench, or just being together at the family cottage at Bayfield. We are so grateful to the wonderful staff at Highview Residences. They gave Dad such calm, caring and respectful support during his final few years and always made the family feel so welcome. A Celebration of Graeme’s Life will be held at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Saturday, April 8th, 2017 at 2:00 p.m., with visitation one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the CNIB, Alzheimer Society, London and Middlesex or a charity of your choice.
