Obituary of Martha Ethel Palmer
Passed away in her 98th year at Victoria Hospital, London, Ontario, after a full and rich life on Monday, January 30th, 2017. Beloved wife of the late Harold O. Palmer (December 1998). She will be greatly missed by her children Robert in St. Armand, Joann (Arend) in St. Thomas and John in Toronto. Nanny was so proud of her grandchildren, Mark (Jen), Brent (Kari) and Scott (Anna) and great-grandchildren Aiden, Brandon, Esme and Cora. Martha was born in Philipsburg, Quebec on December 25th, 1919 and moved to Bedford, Quebec with her mother and grandmother. She was a lifelong member of the Anglican Church supporting the St. James Anglican Church in Bedford and St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church in London, Ontario. Martha and Harold were active members in the Bedford Curling Club. She also enjoyed playing bridge with her friends in Bedford. Throughout her life, Martha enjoyed baking and a favourite for her family and friends were her pies, especially her apple pie. After a long career at the Torrington Company, as the Foreign Correspondent in the sales department, she retired and moved with Harold to London to be close to their grandchildren. In retirement, Martha and Harold enjoyed travelling throughout Europe and spent their winters in Florida. They both enjoyed watching the Expos while living in Quebec and Florida and then the Blue Jays in Ontario. Martha also enjoyed crafts and knitting in her retirement and all who received these special gifts appreciated them very much. There will be no visitation or funeral at her request, however a family burial and memorial will be held in Philipsburg, Quebec, at a later date, where Harold and Martha will be together again. Donations to the War Amps of Canada would be appreciated.
