Obituary of Alberta 'Grace' Smith

Peacefully at Henley Place, London, on Friday, November 18, 2016 at the age of 105. Daughter of the late Alberta Caroline and Rudolph Smith. Predeceased by siblings: Stanley Smith, Harold Smith, Carlyle Smith, Iva Otis, Edna McColl, Annie Doyle, Jean Smith and Marion Ludwig. Survived by many nieces and nephews. Grace attended London Normal School 1930-31 and taught public school in Northern Ontario and locally in Romney Township. She was the office manager at Shore-Seavers Cadillac Dealership in Detroit from 1954 to the early ‘70s. In her retirement, she returned to Wheatley and lived with Edna and Jim McColl. During this time, she travelled to Europe, California and Hawaii. Grace belonged to the Friendship Club and was an avid lawn bowler. She moved to London in 1999 to Riverside Retirement Residence where she turned 100 years old and enjoyed playing Bridge, Euchre and was involved with all the activities there. Grace then moved to Henley Place in 2014 and last month celebrated her 105th birthday. The family would like to thank the staff at Henley Place for their compassionate care during her stay. The funeral service will be held at the Reid Funeral Home and Reception Centre, 14 Russell Street, Leamington (519-326-2631) on Friday, November 25, 2016 at 2:00 p.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment at Shanks Cemetery, Talbot Trail, Chatham-Kent. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the London Health Sciences Foundation.
