Bruce Scott

Obituary of Bruce Robert James Scott

Passed away peacefully at University Hospital on Saturday, September 10, 2016 surrounded by his loved ones, at the age of 62. Beloved husband of Elizabeth Scott (Zymelka). Very proud father of Greg Scott (Suzette), Matt and Heather Scott. Loving Papa of Olivia and Brandon. Survived by sister Susan Delavigne (Roy) and uncle to Aimee and Dory. Dear brother-in-law and uncle of Doug and Gladys Wignall (Jill, Steve, Riley, Kacy), Helen Watson, Mary Forrest (Deb, Maykal, Ava, Kalliope, Sam, Jordan), Theresa Hachey and Mike Zymelka. Predeceased by loving parents James and Ivy Scott, mother-in-law Klara Zymelka and her late husband Ludwig Zymelka. Born December 1st, 1953 in Dunnville, Ontario, Bruce was raised in Toronto and moved to London where he attended the University of Western Ontario. After graduation, he started work at TD Canada Trust, before pursuing a successful career in financial planning for over 40 years. He was very generous, a great advice giver, and always did what he knew best: loved. A dedicated parent, spending a good portion of his time driving his young children (and often their friends and teammates) between sporting events, concerts and sleepovers, Bruce continued as an involved grandfather, doing school and Kumon pickup and extracurricular activities. He had a good sense of humour, and was always ready to help. He loved trivia, Sudoku and math. Genuinely interested in other people, he deeply valued keeping in touch with longtime friends and family. To know Bruce was to know he had the gift of gab! Meticulous and detail-oriented, he also had the most perfect lawn in the neighbourhood and loved his backyard, especially spending time in it with his loved ones. He also loved time at the trailer with his family. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, where the family invites you to join them for a celebration of Bruce’s life on Wednesday, September 14th, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. The family extends thanks to the London Fire Department, paramedics and police services for their assistance. A special ‘thank you’ to University Hospital and the ICU unit nurses, especially Jason: your compassion and kindness were very heart-warming during our difficult time. We are so grateful for the support of our neighbours, friends and family. Those wishing to make a memorial donation are asked to consider the Brain Injury Association of Canada, the Canadian Diabetes Association or, as was Bruce’s choice, to consider organ donation through the Gift of Life program.
