Edward Lindsey Elwood

Obituary of Edward Lindsey Elwood

On July 22nd, 2016, in the afternoon, Lindsey was asked to play in the biggest golf tournament ever, nattily attired in his colourful ensemble and playing quickly so he could enjoy his post-round double thick, rich chocolate milkshake. There is only one Edward Lindsey Elwood (known to many as Mr. E.L. Wood) - one truly unique, loveable, humourous, dedicated man; soulmate to Barbara for 49 years and father of Christopher (Marcie) and David (Barbara) and grandchildren Kendra, Cailyn and a new grandchild T.B.A. this August. Uncle to Rob, Josh and Julie. With brother Brian (Clare), the family share treasured memories of Lindsey's distinctive, highly productive lifestyle. Best-dressed student at Ridley College, and the only competitive golfer to keep a matching shirt in his golf bag in case of rain and baby oil in case of a sunny day. He was famous for his upbeat one-liners, his incredible sweet tooth and his ability to never gain a pound. Consummate handyman...as long as duct tape and vice grips could be used! His daily routine was predictable: early dinner, chocolate sundae, early to bed, early to rise (04:30) and a quick trip to Timmy's for coffee and the newspaper. First in to his McKenzie Lake Office 6 or 7 days a week, Lindsey was a highly respected member of MKL where he tended to his myriad of case files, and enjoyed the exceptional competence of his legal assistant, Katy. Family vacations were full of action: skiing in Utah, sipping Cuba Libras and sun-tanning in Mexico. December was always a blur as client invitations kept him and Barb hopping from party to party. Lindsey was "eternal secretary" for The Investors: forty business colleagues who met monthly, as well as serving as President of the London Hunt and Country Club. Community conscious, Lindsey helped rescue the London Downtown Business Association in 1996 re-writing their constitution and serving as Chair: the always optimistic, photogenic, realistic voice of a struggling sector. As part of his many volunteer activities, Lindsey also served, for the last 16 years, as Chancellor for the Diocese of Huron and was a member of the Huron University College Corporation board. He was a proud recipient of the Order of Huron in May 1999 and was awarded the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal in January 2003. The family expresses a special "thank-you" to Dr. Larry Schmidt and the VON caregivers. The Elwood family invites you to join them for the final round - on Tuesday, August 30th, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Cathedral, 472 Richmond Street, London. An informal reception to celebrate his life will follow at the London Hunt and Country Club. Barbara, his soul mate and wife for almost 50 years, sons Christopher and David, and brother Brian along with their families, look to sharing anecdotes and reflections on Lindsey's life: he's playing with the angels these days, and will certainly be watching!
