Obituary of Roland Anthony Keens
Peacefully at University Hospital surrounded by his daughters on Monday, April 25th, 2016. Beloved husband of Beverley Keens (nee Haennel) for 59 years. Born in Guelph, Ontario, Bud was the only son of Percy and Millie (Weist) Keens. Wonderful father of Kim (Paul Sherriff) of Guelph, Julie (Jeff Krause) of Kilworth, and Michele (Greg Parker) of Stouffville. Fun-loving and storytelling Grampa to Matthew (Ashley), Ryan and Andrew Sherriff, Benjamin and Lauren Krause and Chloe Parker. Bud was one-of-kind: successful business man working for Union Gas for 40 years, a caring, kind, wonderful gentleman who never forgot the value of humility, hard-work and compassion. Bud enjoyed good food, good company and stimulating conversations around the dinner table. He was a former member of the Rotary Club of London West where he had the honour of being named a Paul Harris Fellow. Bud's retirement years were happy and busy which included some travelling and spending time with his family at the cottage on Lake Huron. Bud enjoyed his six grandchildren, delighting them with his boyhood stories around the campfire, flying kites, hikes and making any mundane task into an adventure. The last 8 years of Bud's life was spent in a courageous and inspiring fight against the progression of Alzheimer's disease. During this disease, Bud never lost his kind spirit, sense of humour or the ability to make his wife laugh. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff of the McCormick Home where Bud resided for the past 3.5 years. Visitation will be held at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Friday from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. George Roman Catholic Parish, 1164 Commissioners Road West, London, on Saturday, April 30th, 2016 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a donation to the McCormick Home Foundation.
Mourn me not
For in the warm sunshine reflecting off Lake Huron
Amidst the burning of embers of a campfire
And at different Rotary club projects in London
You will find me
