Obituary of Alvin Ross Martin

MARTIN, Alvin Ross “Al” – Peacefully, at his residence, on Friday, April 24, 2015, in his 89th year. Dedicated father to Paul (Colleen) and Susanna (Mike), and proud grandparent of Megan, Anna, Liam, Shannon and Serena. Predeceased by his wife Bernice (née Zettler) and his sister Hilda. Al was born in Midland, Ontario, and spent his early working years as a ship’s cabinetmaker, which gave him a life-long hobby, producing many fine furniture pieces made to his exacting standards. He later taught himself to make guitars, playing by ear virtually anything. He was an automobile aficionado, and his pride and joy was his 1938 Cadillac, which he spent five years restoring. Al and Bea were a presence in the neighborhood, always willing to help, and he became known as “the man who can fix anything.” He will be missed by many. The funeral service will be conducted at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service. Entombment will take place at St. Peter’s Cemetery and Holy Family Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Al are asked to consider the Canadian Diabetes Foundation, Heart and Stroke Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
