Obituary of Glen R. Ludwig

It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Glen Rolland Ludwig in his 96th year, on Wednesday, March 25th, 2015, at Henley Place in London. Predeceased by his wife Marion (Smith) of 64 years. Loving father of Marcia Meier and her husband Prof. Klaus Meier of London. Sadly missed by his sister Audrey Mayhew of Comber, Ontario and his brother Kenneth Ludwig of Chatham. Also missed by his sister-in-law Grace Smith and several nieces and nephews. Glen was born in 1920 in Tilbury East Township. During World War II, he served as a Flight Engineer and later Pilot Officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force stationed in Calgary. Subsequently, he returned to Tilbury, Ontario to commence a life-long career in farming, culminating in serving as Executive Farm Manager of Tahgahoning Enterprise of the Walpole Island First Nation from 1974 to 1991. During this period of his life he also devoted time to two major organizations. First, he was a 33 degree member of the Masonic Lodge as well as being a Shriner for many years. Second, he was a supporter of the United Church, culminating in his service as the chairman of the Kent Presbytery. In 2001, Glen and his wife moved to London for their retirement years. The funeral service will be conducted at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Sunday, March 29, 2015 at 2:00 p.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service. Cremation and private family inurnment at Woodland Cemetery, London, will take place at a later date. The family would like to thank the staff and support workers at Henley Place for their conscientious care and support of Glen through his final days. Their dedication is greatly appreciated and will always be remembered. In lieu of floral tributes, donations to the Alzheimer Society or London Health Sciences Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
