Obituary of Dr. Neville M. Lefcoe

Dr. Neville Lefcoe passed away at Earls Court Village on Sunday, January 11, 2015 in his 90th year. Beloved husband of Marilyn. Loving father to Daniel (Cheryl), Robert, Jane and Andrew; stepfather of Adrienne (Tony) and Holly; survived by his brother Michael (Barbara); dear grandfather to Lauren, Alexandra, Benjamin, Max, Michelle, Erin, Nicholas and Marissa; predeceased by his parents Joseph and Bessie, and step-daughter Kathryn (Steve). Neville completed his B.Sc. in Biology at McGill University and continued to Vanderbilt University Medical School, graduating in 1950. He then moved to Boston to complete his post graduate residency at Harvard Medical School. He came to London to start his career in Respirology, establishing the first pulmonary function lab at Victoria Hospital. He was awarded a lifetime membership in the Ontario Medical Association for his contributions to medical science. An active researcher, he published numerous papers related to lung disease and smoking cessation. As a professor at Western University, from 1960, Neville enjoyed contributing to the education of future physicians. One of Neville's passions outside of work was golf: he was a long-standing member of Sunningdale Golf & Country Club. He loved being out on the links and golfed into the season before his death. Neville was multi-talented: an all-star track and field athlete at McGill, he also played the saxophone and clarinet. In his youth he played in a band with Oscar Peterson and Maynard Ferguson in Montreal. Neville was a kind-hearted, intelligent and humorous man who always had a funny story to share. He was well loved by all who knew him, and will be dearly missed. Friends and family are welcome to attend a memorial service to celebrate the life of Dr. Lefcoe on Saturday, May 2nd, 2015 at Sunningdale Golf and Country Club, 465 Sunningdale Road West, London.
