Obituary of Lena Mabel Galbraith

Peacefully on Tuesday, November 4th, 2014 at Parkwood Hospital, London in her 95th year. Loving mother of Ian (Maret) of Lexington, Kentucky, Alan (Liz) of London and Marian Smith (Bruce) of Banff, Alberta. Also loved by grandchildren Michelle and Paul, Kelsey and Kristen and by step-grandchildren Johanna and Cameron (Carrie) MacDonald. Predeceased by her beloved husband Dr. Claire Galbraith, brothers Wilfred and David Gillis, sisters Margaret Windsor, Marion Hill and Anna Gillis. Mabel will also be missed by her close niece Norma Gillis along with many other nieces, nephews and their families. Mabel grew up in Sydney, Nova Scotia where she still has lifelong friends. She was a graduate of the Montreal General Hospital’s School of Nursing in 1942. She made London her home in 1952 when she accepted a position at Westminster Hospital where she met and married Claire who was a physician on staff. They married at First-St. Andrew’s United Church where they became lifelong members. Special thanks to the staff at Longworth Retirement Home and Parkwood Hospital for their loving and attentive care of Mabel in the last stages of her life. Visitation will be held on Friday from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, where the memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, November 8th, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Health Care Foundation, 801 Commissioners Rd.
