Obituary of Dennis Arthur Griffiths
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dennis Arthur Griffiths on Saturday, August 9, 2014, at London Health Sciences Centre – University Campus, peacefully, and with family at his side, in his 73rd year. Dennis will be profoundly missed by his daughter, Jennifer (Jim Easton), son, Brett (Shannon Burnham) and their mother, Diana Hayman Scholl (Gary). Sadly predeceased by his son, Jay (2009). Adored “Poppa” to Liam and Morgan Easton. Cherished brother to Gwen (Ron) Sparling, Doug (Audrey), both of London, Don (Francine) of Port Sydney, Richard (Mary-Lynn) of Thorndale and Craig (Joan) of Waterloo. He will also be deeply missed by his many aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Dennis was a well-respected and dedicated educator in London, teaching at Princess Anne, Lord Nelson, Masonville and Stoneybrook Public Schools. He will be fondly remembered for his wicked sense of humour, intelligence, and the twinkle of mischievousness in his eyes. He loved sports, nature, gardening, country music, Civil War history, and animals (especially, his long-time furry companion, Chet). His strength and courage in dealing with a multitude of health issues over many years is legendary. Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Margrieta Edels and the late Dr. Tom McGhie for their care and compassion provided to Dennis over the course of his 32 year battle with illness. At Dennis' request, there will be no funeral service. Cremation has taken place. A gathering to express your condolences to family will be held at the Garden Room at the Ivey Spencer Leadership Centre at 551 Windermere Road, London on Thursday, August 14, 2014 from 2-4 p.m. A private memorial will be held with family and friends at a later date. Donations may be made to the Cancer Society, Diabetes Association, Humane Society or Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada.
