Obituary of Marie Veronica O'Brien
It is with profound sadness that the family announces that after a hard fought battle Mom passed away on July 8th, 2014, at University Hospital; three weeks shy of her 90th birthday with her daughter Maureen by her side. Mom lived life her way. She was a strong and determined woman and an inspiration to everyone whose life she touched. She was a guiding light and best friend to daughter Maureen for many wonderful years. Mom served proudly in the RCAF as a Communications Officer during the Second World War and spoke fondly of her efforts and adventures during her service. Beloved wife of the late Charles Edward (Ed) O’Brien (1973). Cherished mother to Michael O’Brien (Wanda), Guelph; Patricia O’Brien-Lachance, London; Maureen Gunton (Bill), London; Dennis O’Brien (Sandy), Guelph; and Mary Frances O’Brien, Brockville. Predeceased by infant son James. Sister of Rosaleen Watts (Don), Aileen Sheppard (Dave), Pat Langille (Bill) and the late Jerry Halton and Terry Miller. Sister-in-law to Norma Halton. She will be missed by her grandchildren Lake, Kaitlyn, Carly, Patrick, Graeme, Natalie and Lucas. Special thanks to Sam and Navin of St. Elizabeth Health Care for their wonderful care and compassion shown to Mom at home prior to her admission, as well as to the doctors and nurses of the 8th floor at University Hospital. Thank you also to Ruth and Mom’s neighbours at The Gainsborough for the gift of their friendship. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Saturday, July 26th, 2014 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. with tributes at 3:00 p.m. A private family interment will take place at Lakeview Cemetery in Thorold, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in Mom’s memory are asked to consider The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario or The War Amps of Canada.
