Obituary of Lawrence Percy Rowley

ROWLEY, Lawrence Percy A.M.I. Mech. E. 1926 - 2014 He died peacefully at Mount Hope, St. Mary’s Long Term Care on Tuesday, July 8th, age 88. He is survived by his beloved wife Betty and two sons Peter (Toronto) and David (San Francisco) and his dear granddaughter Anne. He was born and raised in the Midlands of England and after graduating from Nottingham University he worked at Rolls Royce as an aeronautical test engineer until he and his wife emigrated to Canada in 1955. He worked for Canadair (now Bombardier) in Montreal as a project manager where he pursued his love of aviation. When he retired in 1989, he and Betty moved to London, Ontario to be closer to family. He had a lifelong interest in music, especially choral singing, and sung in many choirs both large and small: here in London in the Fanshawe Chorus and, most recently, the Valleyview Male Chorus. He loved building things with his hands, from wind chimes to bookcases and he spent hours on his Mac computer, including the writing of his memoirs. His family and many friends enjoyed his wonderful sense of humour. Many of them were in attendance at his and Betty’s celebration of their 60th wedding anniversary in April. For the last two years, he has been receiving excellent care from the staff at Mount Hope, for which we are very grateful. During his last few days, he listened to his wide selection of choral music in peaceful surroundings. The funeral service will be conducted at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Friday, July 11th, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior. Interment, Woodland Cemetery. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Lawrence are asked to consider the Canadian Diabetes Association.
