Obituary of Victor Marsh

MARSH, Victor December 19, 1919 – May 13, 2014 Very peacefully on May 13, 2014, my dad Victor, in his 94th year, joined his wife Lilly (my mom) and his daughter Janina (my sister Yanka) on the next stage of his journey. He will be greatly missed by his daughters Diane and Kim, his sons-in-law Tom and Ron, his grandsons Tommy, Josh, John, Steven, his great-granddaughters Paige and Cooper, as well as the Boaden family, all of whom loved him very much. Born December 19, 1919, Wladyslaw (Wladek) Kaliksy Marcinowski in Gorlice, Poland, son of an engineer-architect. In September 1939, when Germany invaded Poland to start World War II, Victor was studying at a naval academy. His company was sent into battle and Victor was wounded by a grenade and captured by Russian forces. He escaped with friends and travelled cross country by foot and train to Budapest, Hungary. From there they were sent by train to France then England where Victor rejoined the Polish navy based in Plymouth. It was here he met and married the love of his life, Lilly Boaden, an art student. After serving in the North Atlantic, Victor married Lilly and was eventually discharged for medical reasons. He studied architecture in Liverpool and London at the Polish School of Architecture. They started a family, Lilly giving birth to Diane and Yanka. In 1951, the Marcinowski family emigrated to Canada, settling in London, Ontario, where daughter Kim was born. Victor worked as an architect for various firms before becoming a partner and establishing his own firm. Victor designed a number of schools, church restorations and worked on a number of high profile projects including a Labatt Brewery Plant in Toronto and the Elgin-Middlesex Detention Centre, the family name was eventually changed to Marsh. Very special thanks to Dr. Chrissantha Shue and all the staff at Victoria Hospital for all the love and care you showed my Dad. A very big thank you to Jan from Bayshore for making such a difference in my Dad’s final days. Your kindness will never be forgotten. In memory, any donations to the Alzheimer Society of London and Middlesex would be greatly appreciated. A private celebration of my Dad’s life will take place in July.
