Obituary of Anthonius Witkamp
Peacefully at University Hospital embraced in the love of his family, on Sunday, May 11th, 2014, in his 85th year. Beloved husband of Petronella “Nel” (nee Alsemgeest) for 58 years. Loving father of Robert. Proud Opa of Emilie. Dear brother of Suzie (Casper) van der Helm and brother-in-law of Nico (Riet), Lenie (Jan), Piet, Wim (Jose), Cathy, Betty, Johan (Joke), Frans (Nel) and Everien. Devoted foster-father of 13 children. Godfather of David Alsemgeest and Wendy Brunner. Will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews and friends both in Canada and in the Netherlands. Predeceased by brothers Rien (Gon), Jan (Gerarda), Geert, Joop (Katrien), Jacob, Jaap, and by in-laws Sjaan (Wim), Trudy, Ben and Sjaak. Tony and his new bride emigrated from The Netherlands the day after they married in 1956. He worked for the University of Western Ontario for over 30 years. Some of Tony’s passions included playing billiards with his buddies, watching the Leafs and Knights on TV and he especially enjoyed soccer – any soccer. Dutch International matches were his favourite – HUP HOLLAND HUP!! The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at ST. JOHN THE DIVINE PARISH, 390 Base Line Road West, London on Saturday, May 17th, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Private family interment at St. Peter’s Mausoleum at a later date. The family extend special thanks to the staff of the Cardiac C.C.U., especially to Ron and Sarah, for their care and support. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Tony are asked to consider the Batten Disease Support and Research Association (Canada) or the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southwestern Ontario.
