Obituary of Nura Steiner

1927-2014 - Nura Steiner (Faridian) was born in Hamadan, Iran on March 21, 1927. Her great-grandfather was one of the first Bahá’ís of Jewish background in that city. Given their Bahá’í Faith, the family placed great emphasis on education, particularly for the girls. At the age of 18, Nura responded to a call made to Iranian Baha’is to settle in countries around the world in order to spread the message of this new universal Faith and to contribute to the social and economic development of these countries. She studied nursing in England and then proceeded to Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) to serve as both a rural and city nurse there. Her African chapter lasted five years. In 1959 she married René A. Steiner in Bern Switzerland. Their three sons (René, Roy and Marc) were born over a period of six years. In 1970, the family settled in Canada after an extended stay in Germany where both she and her husband served the Bahá’í community of that country with devotion and distinction. She continued serving the London, Ontario community as a medical professional until her retirement. In 2001 the Steiners moved to Grand Bend, Ontario where they became active members of community life there. Nura passed away on April 13, 2014 peacefully after sustaining critical injuries in a fall. She will be laid to rest in Grand Bend. Online condolences may be made at www.westviewfuneralchapel.com
