Obituary of James William Poletes
Suddenly, on April 2nd, James William Poletes passed away to join his beloved wife Anna, who departed in 1995. Dearly cherished daddy to Viola (Byron) and much loved papouli to Daphne and Jemma. Sadly missed by brother-in-law George Loupos (Erica) in England, and sister-in-law Toula Kokkolias (Antonis) in Greece, cousin-in-law George Coros (Dorothy) of Peterborough, and many nieces and nephews in Canada, England, and Greece. Jimmy was a very proud Greek-Canadian who had honourably served as a military police captain during the Greek civil war. It was during that time he met the love of his life, Anna Loupos, when he was assigned to protect her village. After the war, Jimmy and Anna left Greece and came to Canada. Jimmy owned Poletes Corner Variety on Adelaide Street for 25 years. After Anna passed away, Jimmy mourned her loss deeply. Later, the light returned to his eyes and heart when he became a grandfather. The arrival of his adored granddaughters filled him with great joy. Sincere gratitude and appreciation to the staff of Country Terrace long-term care facility in Komoka. You were his angels in the last two years. Visitation will be held at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, on Friday from 2-4PM and 7-9PM. Prayer service will be at 3:00PM. Funeral service will be conducted at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 133 Southdale Road West on Saturday, April 5th, at 11AM. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery on Springbank Drive. To honour Jimmy’s memory, and in lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to the Parkinson’s Society or a gesture of kindness to someone in need.
"Jimmrr" will be forever in our hearts.”
