Obituary of Hilda May (nee Allum) Hibbert-Chappell

Passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the love of her daughter, son-in-law, and friend Bernice, on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 in her 88th year. Hilda was predeceased by her first husband, Leslie Hibbert (1983) and her second husband, Kenneth Chappell (2010), her son, Ron Hibbert (2008), her parents William and Rosa Allum, her brothers and sister, and in-laws: William and Dorothy Allum, Frank and Edie Allum, Fred and Klela Allum, Muriel (Dolly) Rodney, Jean Allum, Helen Allum, Muriel Allum, Winnifred and Orlend Olson, Don and Loraine Hibbert, Clarence Halverson, Maude and Bob Miller, and her step-daughter-in-law Bette Chappell. Cherished mother, mother-in-law, step-mother of Carolyn and Ted Griffin, Rosemarie Hibbert, Jill and Mike Simpson, and Peter Chappell and his fiancée Cathy Nichols. Beloved Grandma to Bruce Griffin and his partner Nicole Boyd, Neil Hibbert and his partner Lisa Clark and Ian Hibbert and his wife Genevieve Samuels, step-grandmother to Amy and Louis Caicco, Chad Simpson, Patrick and Leigh Chappell, Kyle Chappell and Michelle Chappell, and loving great-grandma to Desmond Hibbert. Dearly loved sister and sister-in-law of Walter Allum, Bob and Lorine Allum, and Marjorie Halverson. She will also be deeply missed by many nieces and nephews. Hilda was an avid square and round dancer, having danced with many clubs both in Clinton and London. She and her husband, Les, started the Round-A-Bouts and for many years Mom was the proud caller. She was a devoted member of Merry Mixers at Byron United Church for over 40 years and W.M.S. Gilmour at Elmwood Avenue Presbyterian Church for 20 years. Carolyn would like to extend a sincere thank you to the doctors and nurses at Victoria Hospital Palliative Care ward for easing Mom’s pain for 53 days and all the St. Elizabeth nurses and ParaMed personal support workers, especially Gwen, who made Mom’s 104 days at home easier to bear and sometimes even a joy. Visitation for family and friends will be held at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, on Friday, March 21st, 2014 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted at Elmwood Avenue Presbyterian Church, 111 Elmwood Avenue East, London, on Saturday, March 22nd, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, donations to the London Regional Cancer Program or Elmwood Ave. Presbyterian Church would be greatly appreciated.
