I have worked with Dr. Chandarana for over thirty years. He was a soft spoken, dignified and caring Psychiatrist. He loved to teach at every opportunity and his lessons well received. Dear Mrs. Chandarana and family, Words cannot express my sadness and sorrow for your loss. When Dr. Chandarana first told me of his illness, my first thought was "why him? He is the kindest, gentlest soul I have ever known". I have worked with Dr. Chandarana since 1998 and fondly remember our talks at South Street and more recently Victoria Hospital. Dr. Chandarana was an immense source of encouragement for me when I was blessed with a baby when I was 40. He told me warm and wonderful stories about his large family growing up in the close community where everyone took care of each other. He said that all you need in life is your family and love. He showed such kindness and compassion to everyone in his life. Over the last few years, he would describe his trips to B.C. and Australia and his eyes would sparkle with such happiness, and I truly will miss our talks. He was a great man and Psychiatrist who will not be forgotten.

Dear Mrs. C. and family: I have worked with Dr. C. for many years and was one of the Purple team nurses years ago at South Street. I respected Dr. Chandarana so much. He was one of the best Psychiatrists and all of us in Mental health felt privileged to enjoy his wisdom and kindness to all. He truly cared about his patients and was always available and approachable. He was a role model for patient relations ( and penmanship ) to all. He often talked to us about his family, his boys, what they were doing now, and his grandchildren ... they brought such joy to his life. He was so proud of all of you. His eulogy was a fitting tribute. It will be so hard to not see his smiling face on the Unit. And, throughout it all, he never complained ... he kept smiling. He continued to face his battle with a smile, honesty, strength and a personal sense of dignity that characterizes a great man. They say the souls of those who lived life well ... eternally live on. He will not be forgotten. Please accept my deepest sympathy.

When our son, Shameer was in the hospital in May 2012, Dr. Praful took time out of his busy schedule to visit him, attend a meeting with Shameer's doctors, and then explain to us the results of that meeting. We were most appreciative of his help and Shameer was also very happy to see Dr. Praful during his visit. We hope with time, the pain you now feel will be taken over by loving memories of Dr. Praful. Dilshad, Shamir, Anuj and family - I can't even put into words how deeply sorry I am. This is such a terrible loss. Life will never be the same without him. I met Dr. Chandarana in 2007 when I started working at South Street and in 2010, started working for him. I will always remember him as a very kind, and patient man. I have so many wonderful memories. When I was at the house a few weeks ago, his last words to me were "you are going to be okay". Those words after very comforting at a time like this. I will never forget you.

We can only imagine what it is like for you as we are still finding it hard to believe that he is no longer with us. I have known Dr. Chandarana for at least 10 years and I always looked up to him for guidance and wisdom. He was a sincere soul who was compassionate, kind, generous and an excellent role model and teacher.He spoke fondly of his family and his past experiences. Please accept our sincere condolences..We hope the grief of the inestimable and painful loss is tempered somewhat by knowing that it is shared by his friends, colleagues and many others who were touched by him. Our last visit will forever remain intact in our memory. The twinkle in his eye while sharing the pictures of his grandchildren was a delight to watch. We are glad that he was able to spend time with them. He showed great fortitude and courage in the face of pain and suffering .It is a travesty that the cruel hand of fate would steal some important years from him. Alas, such is life ! I have however no doubt that his tremendous contributions to the field of psychiatry, as an astute clinician, and as a great teacher, will remain in the hallowed memory of the department for a long time to come. Dear Dina, It is with very heavy heart that I write this note.Whatever we write whatever we will say be just meaningless words of no significance. Praful was a great soul full of life and love, attachment and affection.His love and affection for the family were an example of humility -very expression of words. It is but natural to grieve but his life is a catalogue of deeds to be remembered and cherished with great pride. I very much wanted to come and visit him NOT to comfort him BUT to scold him why was he in such a hurry to leave us all so soon when so many of us elders are in front of the Q.You naughty Praful.! You are very much aware that Praful was heart and soul of Chandarana family always ready to attend all events and with your support be a warm hearted host for one and all. Playing last Golf Round with him in London when I missed my putt for Two clubs his encouraging comment was " Aroonbhai I forgot to tell you that holes on this course are slightly smaller than others " that is Praful witty and encouraging. How we enjoyed our stay with Anuj and Nandini in Toronto playing Lambo Lambo Magar with Arman . Praful was ever so happy to play ,he loved people but he loved children most. We shall fondly cherish his memories, his benevolence and compassion. He touched lives of so many people in so many ways that his void is going to be impossible to fill. He does not need our prayers- very strength of his deeds is sufficient to open all gates of Heaven. Dina we love you all we are all very much with you.
