Obituary of Sgt. Karl (Ret.) Baumgarten

Passed away peacefully with family by his side on Wednesday, February 5th, 2014 in his 84th year. Beloved husband of Ingrid for 57 years. Loving father of Monica Morrison (Hughie) and Karl (Ellen). Cherished Opa of Michelle (Ryan), Karl (Jodie), Christopher (Jessica) and Leanne (Mike) and great-grandpa to Brayden, Lukas and Thomas. Survived by his sister Hertha Goering and his niece Susanne, both of Germany. Karl served 27 years with the Royal Canadian Regiment; spending 3 terms in Cypress and 2 terms with NATO in Germany. After retiring from the Army, Karl joined the University Police and also became a member of the Royal Canadian Legion – Victory Branch. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, where the service will be conducted on Monday, February 10th, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. A Royal Canadian Regiment service will be held on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. Interment at Woodland Cemetery. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Karl are asked to consider the London Health Sciences Foundation – Cancer Centre or the RCR Museum.
