Obituary of Maureen Pocock

With deep sadness we announce that Maureen Ellen Pocock (nee Quinn), passed away quickly and peacefully on Monday January 6th, 2014 at home in Delaware, Ontario. Maureen, in her 80th year, is pre-deceased by her husband of 47 years, Terrence H. Pocock, parents Grace and Sylvester Quinn and brother Brian Quinn. She will be greatly missed by her brother and sister, Gerald and Alanna Quinn, as well as her seven children and their families: Michael Pocock, Susan (and Philip) Roth, Tim (and Jennifer) Pocock, Gordon Pocock, Mary-Lynne Snedden (and Antin), Andrew Pocock (and Bree), and Jennifer (and Pete) Marriott. Her six grandchildren Mackenna, Austin and Baden Roth, Harper Snedden, and Cameron and Josh Pocock will all cherish their memories of Granny Mo. As a young woman, Maureen was a statuesque model with brilliant blue eyes and a stunning smile. Being athletic, she was on the basketball and cheer-leading teams at Catholic Central High School. She was an accomplished seamstress, creating many lovely gowns for herself, and beautifully crafted costumes and clothing for her siblings and children. Maureen graduated from the University of Western Ontario (Brescia College) in 1955. As a drum majorette and great charming beauty, she was known as their "Secret Weapon". Terry was the love of her life and best friend whom she deeply missed since his passing in June 2002. A highly intelligent woman and devoted wife, she supported and contributed to all of her husband's endeavours, in both business and personal projects. Many will have fond memories of Maureen from the family's life-long involvement with horses. She was ever present, proudly and with some fear for their safety, at the many equestrian events her children participated in. She was also a gracious host and a force behind the competitions that were held on the family farm. Later in life Maureen and Terry developed a keen interest in playing croquet and hosted the Canadian Championships on the farm that they loved. Many Jack Russell Terriers were constant companions that brought her much joy. Watching the gardens, trees and birds change throughout the seasons gave her immense pleasure and peace. Maureen was a truly generous and kind person who was a wonderful cook, a curious traveller and an avid reader with a sharp mind and quick wit. In her later years, she liked to be cozy in front of the fireplace, with her cat, daily crossword, Sudoku and a classic movie. The family extends a sincere thank you to Darlene Tuszinski for her care and support over the last fifteen years and for the compassion shown to Maureen by Dr. Catherine Walsh. All of Maureen’s family and friends will sincerely miss her grace, charm, and beauty. As per Maureen’s wishes, a private celebration of her life will be held with family and friends at a later date.
