Obituary of Ronald Hobbs

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Ronald Hobbs on Friday, October 18th, 2013 in his 80th year. Beloved husband and soul mate of the late Valerie (2011). Cherished father of Ian Hobbs (Elizabeth Stopar) and Kim (John) Staikos. Proud grandfather of Mathew, William, Ben and Sarah. Dearly loved by his sister Jean (Dave) Elderfield. Sadly missed by his nieces Karen (Dave) McAskell, Serena (Matt) Neale and Kristi Fenn (Andrew Lee). Best friends with Harry and Maureen Cook and Kevin and Pat Martin. Ron and Val immigrated to Canada just after their wedding in 1957. Ron dedicated over 40 years of his career as an engineer at the Ford Assembly Plant in St. Thomas. He was very proud of the people he worked with and their accomplishments. Ron spent his retirement years sailing, cruising around the world and volunteering. Ron was very active with the St. John’s Pet Therapy Program. He loved to visit the nursing homes with his dog Misty. Ron’s dedication and commitment was recently recognized with a Vote of Thanks from the Governor General. In honour of his dedication and commitment to the Pet therapy program, his daughter has adopted his new dog, Bear, to continue on with this important work. Ron also volunteered with the Delaware Lions Club and Y.M.C.A. He often spoke about the great work and friends he made through these organizations. Ron always thought that he lived in the best country and the best neighborhood in the world. The Kilworth neighbours were like a second family to him and they always made him feel very special and loved. Visitation will be held on Friday from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, where the memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, November 2nd, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations to the St. John’s Pet Therapy Program, Second Chance Animal Auction Rescue or the Brain Tumour Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family. “The Best and Most Beautiful Things in the world cannot be seen or even touched, they must be felt within the heart”… Helen Kellar
